Laurence
W. Dague joined the Firm in June 1986 and became a shareholder
in 1988, serving as Chairman of the Litigation Department until
August 2003 when he became Of Counsel to the Firm's Litigation
Department.
While
Mr. Dague's practice encompasses many areas of the law, his emphasis
is on commercial and business litigation. Mr. Dague has been certified
as qualified to serve as lead counsel in class action litigation
and has served as lead counsel in class actions in such areas
as ERISA, antitrust law, securities laws (including proxy solicitations
and securities fraud), corporate control and governance disputes,
shareholder derivative actions, employment law (including, in
addition to ERISA, employment discrimination, breaches of officers'
and directors' fiduciary duties, and employment contracts), lender
liability, fidelity bond coverage, environmental law, trademark
infringement, and a wide variety of breach of contract issues.
He also has extensive experience in tort matters, including cases
alleging professional malpractice, intentional interference with
contract, defamation, conspiracy, fraud and misrepresentation.
Mr.
Dague had been in the private practice of law for more than six
years prior to joining the Firm. In addition, he served as Acting
Chief Counsel of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Workers' Compensation;
Assistant Attorney General, Pennsylvania Department of Labor and
Industry; and as an Assistant Attorney General with the Pennsylvania
Department of Justice. Mr. Dague has handled cases at every level
of both state and federal courts and before administrative agencies.
He has served as primary counsel not only in cases throughout
Pennsylvania but also in New York City, Baltimore, Columbus, Seattle
and Hartford.
Mr.
Dague is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and Maryland
and is a member of the bars of the United States Supreme Court,
the United States Courts of Appeal for the Third and Sixth Circuits
and the United States District Courts for the Middle, Eastern,
and Western Districts of Pennsylvania.
Mr.
Dague received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh
School of Law and his B.A., with honors in English Literature,
from Franklin and Marshall College.
