Law
Clerk Opportunities
Shumaker
Williams, P.C. seeks to hire a law student, who has completed
his or her second year of law school, to work in its Camp Hill,
Pennsylvania office during the summer. In addition, the successful
candidate will be expected to either: work during his or her
third year of law school, if possible, or demonstrate a significant
connection to Central Pennsylvania during the candidacy process
and a desire to return to Central Pennsylvania upon graduation
from law school.
SW
conducts a program that gives each law clerk the opportunity
to understand the private practice of law and the culture of
the Firm. SW strives to attract the best law students and offers
students an ideal work environment to begin their professional
experience.
Each
law clerk will participate in an orientation session and be
assigned a mentor to provide general guidance on any matter.
The law clerk will meet with his or her mentor on a weekly basis
to discuss any questions he or she may have and discuss work
assignments.
The
law clerk will be assigned a variety of assignments in different
areas of the law. SW makes every effort to ensure that the law
clerk works with as many attorneys as possible. The law clerks
are encouraged to attend SW staff meetings, client meetings,
board meetings, hearings, oral arguments, depositions, and a
variety of other events.
Each
attorney who assigns a project to a law clerk will be asked
to evaluate his or her performance based upon the timeliness
of the project and the quality of the work performed. In addition,
SW wants to observe and evaluate the law clerks professionalism,
judgment, and interpersonal skills. In October, these evaluations
will be reviewed, summarized, and discussed with the law clerk.
Whether an offer for employment following graduation is made
depends on the law clerks work performance and SWs
hiring needs. Typically, the partners make a hiring decision
in November.
