Harry
Levy joined the Firm in September 2003 and is a shareholder and
the Chairman of the Litigation Department. He has been awarded
an AV® Peer Review Rating by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell,
which identifies lawyers with a very high preeminent legal ability,
expertise, integrity and overall professional excellence
Mr.
Levy offers experience and judgment in all facets of complex litigation
for commercial and business clients. Prior to joining the Firm,
Mr. Levy spent nineteen years as an associate and partner at a
Baltimore law firm where his cases included all phases of sophisticated
civil, commercial and criminal litigation, at trial and appellate
levels of state and federal courts and administrative agencies.
He has aggressively and successfully represented clients before
the Court of Appeals of Maryland, Court of Special Appeals of
Maryland, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit,
United States District Court for the District of Maryland, United
States District Court for the District of Columbia, District of
Columbia Court of Appeals, Superior Court for the District of
Columbia and numerous circuit and district courts in Maryland.
Further,
a firm believer in and practitioner of non-litigious solutions,
Mr. Levy is a trained mediator for alternative dispute resolution
of business issues, having completed the comprehensive course
offered by the Maryland Institute for the Continuing Professional
Education of Lawyers.
Prior
to entering private practice, Mr. Levy served as law clerk to
the Honorable Paul E. Alpert of the Court of Special Appeals of
Maryland where he assisted in the preparation of over one hundred
appellate decisions.
Mr.
Levy is admitted to the bars of the State of Maryland, District
of Columbia, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit,
United State Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, United
States District Court for the District of Maryland and United
States District Court for the District of Columbia. He is a member
of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore County Bar
Association, District of Columbia Bar Association, Federal Bar
Association and American Trial Lawyers Association (Litigation
Division).
Mr.
Levy received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore
School of Law, where he served as Casenotes Editor for the University
of Baltimore Law Review. He received his B.S. from the University
of Maryland.
In
addition to his law degree, Mr. Levy received his Executive Master's
Degree in Business Administration from Loyola College in Maryland.
This experience enables Mr. Levy to offer additional acumen to
his law clients, tapping into comprehensive training in strategic
planning, marketing operations, business ethics, finance and accounting,
entrepreneurship and management organization and leadership and
international business. Coupled with his significant litigation
background, Mr. Levy is now uniquely positioned to provide Shumaker
Williams' business clients not only with sound legal advice, but
with the added dimension of an educated business perspective -
sound real world advice and representation based upon an analysis
of the client's business needs and desires bolstering an appreciation
and assessment of litigation opportunities and risks.
